Colon Hydrotherapy FAQ
DO I NEED COLON HYDROTHERAPY?
Colon therapy sessions are like exercise it takes more than one workout to get in shape, results are cumulative, and lifestyle and consistency of treatment play a vital role. Everyone could benefit from a series of colon hydrotherapy sessions, and creating a schedule of regular sessions that are right for you.
Waste material, especially that which has remained in the colon for some time, (i.e. impacted feces, dead cell tissue, accumulated mucous, parasites, worms, etc.) are quite toxic. These poisons can re-enter and circulate in the blood stream making us feel ill, tired or weak. Secondly, impacted materials impair the colon’s ability to assimilate minerals and bacteria-produced vitamins. A build-up of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action. This can cause sluggish bowel movements and constipation. A wide range of issues begin with the colon: headaches, backaches, fatigue, bad breath, body odor, irritability, brain fog, skin problems, abdominal gas, bloating, diarrhea, and more. We are only beginning to understand the relevance of gut microbiota and mental health, neurological illness and weight gain.
HOW MANY COLON HYDROTHERAPY SESSIONS DO I NEED?
It varies from person to person and your prevailing condition, diet and lifestyle. In some cases, waste matter is dehydrated, hard and affixed to the colon wall, which can take six to ten (possibly more) sessions to sufficiently soften. Also, keep in mind that the benefits of colon hydrotherapy are cumulative. Those undergoing lifestyle and dietary changes, such as detoxification programs, juice fasts or liver/gallbladder flushes, may benefit from more frequent sessions. Most people feel the benefit of doing a series fairly close together and then choosing a maintenance schedule suitable to their lifestyle.
DOES COLON THERAPY HAVE HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS?
Colon hydrotherapy has no known side effects. Some people may experience mild detoxification symptoms after a treatment, as toxins that have been lying dormant in the colon are now being flushed out. Some waste deposits may only be partially removed, which is why a series of sessions is advised, especially if the client is new to colon hydrotherapy.
DOES COLON THERAPY REMOVE FRIENDLY BACTERIA FROM THE COLON?
Good bacteria can only breed in a clean environment. Colon hydrotherapy sessions clean out the putrefying waste material and “bad” bacteria (yeasts, E. coli, etc) and make a better environment for good intestinal flora to thrive. A probiotic supplement can be taken after a session to help good bacteria proliferate and thrive.
Yes. Menstruation is a form of cleansing, and there is an absorbent pad placed underneath you for your comfort.
CAN I DO COLON THERAPY SESSIONS IF I AM MENSTRUATING?
Yes. Certain conditions like active infections or inflammation (Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Diverticulitis), painful fissures or hemorrhoids mean treatment cannot be comfortably carried out until they've healed or are in remission. Diseases such as congestive heart disease, severe uncontrolled hypertension, severe anemia, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, severe hemorrhaging and colorectal cancer are also contraindications for treatment. Some physical conditions such as severe abdominal or inguinal hernias make it unsuitable. Treatment is not advised for women in their first or third trimesters of pregnancy.
ARE THERE CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN COLON THERAPY IS NOT ADVISABLE?
Preparation for colon hydrotherapy, will undoubtably increase one’s potential for ease and thorough release during a session. Seeing as everyone who comes to Release of Nashville is in a different place, in terms of diet, nutritional awareness, internal stagnation, and so forth, the best way to prepare for colon hydrotherapy is to simplify your diet. Upping your intake of fresh vegetables (raw or cooked) and fruits, decreasing one’s intake of meat, dairy, refined carbohydrates and starches, and the avoidance of processed or pre-packaged foods and carbonated drinks is ideal. Including, if one can, freshly pressed vegetable juice, green-smoothies, lemon water (lots of it), aloe vera juice, and other liquid-rich foods like vegetable broths and soups, can be extraordinarily beneficial.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR COLON HYDROTHERAPY?
Most people experience a sense of levity after their session a sense of lightness and openness within the abdomen and all throughout the body that truly needs to be experienced to be properly understood, as the feeling is somewhat indescribable. Joy, bliss, freedom are all words that come to mind. That being said, some people, especially those with chronic, long-term constipation and chronic inflammation throughout the digestive/eliminatory tract, and, or, in the body, will sometimes feel drained (no pun intended) and have the desire to rest afterwards. In this case, scheduling your first colonic on your day off, or after work, is recommended.
